Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 10, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how VeloChess (“VeloChess”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards your information when you access or use our website, applications, and related services (collectively, the “Service”). By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
We designed VeloChess to be usable without creating an account. As a result, we collect as little personal information as reasonably possible while still operating the Service.
1. Information We Collect
We collect the following categories of information:
a. Information you provide
- A display name or nickname you choose for games (this may be a name you type or one we generate for you). Please do not use your real name or any sensitive information.
- Messages you send through in-game chat during multiplayer matches, and any content you voluntarily submit (for example, when you email us for support or feedback).
b. Information collected automatically
- Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, general location inferred from your IP, referring pages, and timestamps.
- Usage data such as the games you play, moves you make, results, estimated ratings, puzzles attempted, feature interactions, and diagnostic or error information.
- Data stored locally on your device (see “Cookies & Local Storage” below), including a randomly generated guest identifier and your saved preferences.
c. Game data
- To provide game history, analysis, and reviews, we may store the moves, positions, results, and metadata of your games (for example in standard PGN/FEN chess formats), associated with your randomly generated guest identifier.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Operate, provide, maintain, and improve the Service and its features;
- Generate AI-powered coaching, move analysis, rating estimates, puzzles, and game reviews;
- Save and display your game history and progress;
- Enable multiplayer matchmaking, real-time play, and chat;
- Protect the Service, prevent fraud and abuse, enforce rate limits, and maintain security and integrity;
- Understand usage trends, debug problems, and develop new features;
- Respond to your inquiries, feedback, and support requests;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our Terms of Service.
Where required by applicable law, we rely on legal bases including your consent, our legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, and compliance with legal obligations.
3. Cookies & Local Storage
We use cookies and similar local storage technologies that are strictly necessary to run the Service. Specifically, we use:
- A signed, HTTP-only session cookie used for security purposes, such as protecting our application endpoints against abuse and applying rate limits;
- Browser local storage to remember your randomly generated guest identifier, chosen display name, theme, sound, and other preferences so the Service works as expected.
We do not use these technologies for third-party advertising or cross-site behavioral tracking. You can clear cookies and local storage through your browser settings, but doing so may reset your preferences and guest data and may affect how the Service functions.
4. AI Features & Automated Processing
Certain features—such as coaching, move analysis, rating estimation, and game review—are powered by artificial intelligence. To generate these outputs, chess-related data (such as board positions, moves, and limited game context) may be processed by us and by trusted third-party AI and infrastructure providers acting on our behalf.
AI-generated outputs, including ratings, evaluations, and commentary, are automated estimates provided for entertainment and educational purposes. They may be inaccurate or incomplete and should not be relied upon as professional or definitive advice.
5. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We may share information in the following limited circumstances:
- Service providers: with vendors who process data on our behalf to host the Service, store data, deliver AI features, provide analytics, and maintain security, under obligations of confidentiality and data protection.
- Other players: your display name, moves, and chat messages are visible to opponents you play against in multiplayer.
- Legal & safety: when we believe disclosure is necessary to comply with applicable law, regulation, legal process, or governmental request, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of VeloChess, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, reorganization, or sale of assets, information may be transferred as part of that transaction.
6. Data Retention
We retain information for as long as necessary to provide the Service and for the purposes described in this Policy, including maintaining game history, ensuring security, resolving disputes, and complying with our legal obligations. We may retain and use aggregated or de-identified information indefinitely, as it can no longer reasonably be used to identify you. When information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to delete or anonymize it.
7. Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect information against unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You use the Service at your own risk.
8. Children's Privacy
The Service is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us at support@valeworth.com and we will take appropriate steps to delete such information.
9. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict its processing, to object to processing, and to data portability. Because much of the data we hold is tied only to a randomly generated guest identifier, we may need additional information to locate it or may be unable to associate it with a specific individual.
To exercise any available rights, contact us at support@valeworth.com. You may also clear your local data at any time through your browser settings. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.
10. International Data Transfers
We operate the Service and may process and store information in countries other than the one in which you reside. These countries may have data protection laws that differ from those in your jurisdiction. Where required, we take steps to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.
11. Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal. Because there is no common industry standard for interpreting these signals, the Service does not currently respond to them. We do not track you across third-party websites for advertising purposes.
12. Third-Party Links
The Service may contain links to third-party websites or services that we do not operate or control. This Policy does not apply to those third parties, and we are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. We encourage you to review the privacy policies of any third-party services you visit.
13. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the “Last updated” date above. Material changes will be reflected on this page, and your continued use of the Service after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Policy.
14. Contact Us
If you have questions or concerns about this Privacy Policy or our data practices, please contact us at support@valeworth.com or visit our Contact page. We read every message and take your privacy seriously.
